Jacques Bardoux: Intellectual and Politician examines the various facets of Jacques Bardoux’s career as an intellectual, notable, and broker of ideas at the juncture of several spheres stretching from academia to the French parliament, as well as a stint in the Ferdinand Foch cabinet at the end of World War One. His trajectory illustrates the polymorphic aspect of French political liberalism during the first half of the 20th century as well as the importance of a local position of strength in the construction of a long-lasting political career. Bardoux headed several studies of United Kingdom government policies and also on reforming the French state. In this way his career also lends itself to an examination of the themes explored by the CHEC in its four-year projects on opposing forces in the agora and the critique of power.
